The Hidden Leaves had lost contact with Konohamaru and Mugino. With Katasuke and the ninja hound Chamaru in tow, Team 7 inspect the crash site the two jounins were investigating, hoping to find clues as to their whereabouts. Instead they found mysterious puppets, identified by Katasuke as incredibly advanced scientific ninja tools. After a brief fight in which the scientist's knowledge proved instrumental against their mechanical enemies, the group manage to locate Konohamaru and Mugino. But their reunion was interrupted by the arrival of an unexpected foe.
