Heisuke and the others try to find Okita. Kondou asks them to go finish their meal, but he then leaves. Ryuunosuke offers his help to Kondou in looking for Okita. While on the way, Kondou explains how Okita came a clan of swordsmen and was being bullied after his sister had left him in the Shieikan Dojo. A few days after, the dojo held practice in a form of a tournament with the young Okita struggling yet still continuing to fight after being wounded. Eventually, Kondou and Ryuunosuke find Okita on the bridge by the river. Later, after talking to Tonouchi talks about Kondou and the Roshigumi, Serizawa meets Okita on the street and tells him that Tonouchi is acting against the Roshigumi. From there, Okita then lures Tonouchi and kills him with Hijikata and Kondou later busting down Serizawa's door to confront him on the act.
