Meanwhile, Stroheim awakens the Pillar Man, dubbed by Stroheim as Santana,[g] by sacrificing several prisoners to flood the figure with blood. To test Santana, Stroheim sends in a prisoner that was made into a vampire by a stone mask. Santana absorbs the vampire into his body to feed himself before uttering Stroheim's name...
