Princess Eris of the Eagle tribe is seen soaring casually until she is shot down by an electrocuting net. She is captured by Raven soldiers authorized by king Cragger of the Crocodile tribe, who intends to lay siege to the Lion Kingdom. The Lion prince Laval is summoned by his father king Lagravis to the throne room to arm himself with chi for the first time, an elemental energy source in the realm of Chima that grands the user evolved fighting power and strength. Before Laval can place the orb in his armor, the Crocodiles attack joined by Wolf and Raven armies. Cragger, bearing his crown breaches the throne room and steals several orbs of chi. Laval pursues and jousts him in the forest and confronts him at their childhood play area, the Forever Rock. A flashback shows Laval and Cragger playing hide and seek during their younger days, along with the other heirs of the other tribes who are their friends. Cragger calls out Laval's need to constantly follow rules and encourages having fun some more. He convinces Laval to enter the sacred pool in the Lion throne room where the pool of chi is guarded. Against the law, he uses an orb before coming of age, which makes him behave monstrous. He attacks many of their friends before Lagravis captures him. This leads to quarrel between Lagravis and the Crocodile king Crominus, Cragger's father. After the incident, Cragger stubbornly tries to show off to Worriz, the leader of the wolf pack by breaching the temple again. This time, he's caught by Lagravis and his guards Leonidas and Longtooth. Cragger attacks Lagravis and flees, leading Laval to chase him. Cragger accidentally summons troops with his flare before Laval confronts him at the fangs. Believing Cragger's capture is an act of war, Crominus attacks the Lion army. The unstable ground at the fangs leads the Crocodile tank to dangle over the powerful Gorge of Eternal Depth, which has a strong gravitational pull. Crominus and his wife, queen Crunket are trapped in the cockpit and declare Cragger to take command of the tribe before falling into the Gorge. Cragger is in grief weeks later with his burden, and his evil, manipulative sister Crooler encourages him to take leadership.
