Lloyd and Garmadon battle The Omega and manage to destroy the Realm Crystal, but it has no effect, thus forcing them to escape from the Oni. They are quickly cornered inside the vault, but they find the Golden Armor which scares the Oni away long enough for them to escape from Borg Tower. Lloyd and Garmadon then contact P.I.X.A.L. who rescues them just in time, but struggles returning with them to Destiny's Bounty as she is almost out of fuel. Meanwhile, the other Ninja arrive at the News Building and rescue everyone trapped there before the dark cloud can reach them. However, just as they are about to escape from the Oni, Nya accidentally reverses the ship's engines, causing Cole to fall into the dark cloud and seemingly die. P.I.X.A.L. arrives with Lloyd and Garmadon on the Destiny's Bounty just in time before running out of fuel and they all mourn Cole's apparent demise, except Garmadon, who refuses to show any emotions as he believes that they make him weak and surviving is the only thing that matters, causing everyone to be angry with him. This prompts Garmadon to look over some old pictures of the Ninja and, while doing so, he begins understanding why they care so much about friendship and family. Meanwhile, Kai tries to convince Nya to stop feeling guilty over Cole's death and she comes with a new plan to stop the Oni: return to the Monastery of Spinjitzu and have Kai use his blacksmith skills to unfuse the Golden Armor into the Golden Weapons, as they might be the only thing strong enough to defeat the Oni. In the final scene, Cole is shown unconscious, but still alive, inside the dark cloud as the darkness slowly approaches him.
