Jean Valjean heads to Paris with Cosette, using makeshift vehicles and crossing uncrowded streets. He knows he is being chased by Javert and that only by taking refuge in a big city he could return to anonymity. During the journey Jean Valjean confesses to the little girl the sad truth about her: she will no longer be able to hug her mother again.
