In the ruins of an ancient kingdom, Jessie uncovers a staff and mask that allows her to control any Pokémon. Team Rocket escapes with Ash's Pikachu, but discovers the Pokémon-controlling abilities of the staff and mask only work within the boundaries of the village. Brock asks Golbat to chase Team Rocket and while chasing it evolves to Crobat. Crobat easily takes down Team Rocket and helps retrieve the staff and mask.
