Siluca receives word from one of the mages in Eramu that a purge of mages thought to be loyal to the Lords by the Mage Academy is underway, and the newly formed Imperial Army--all Union, Alliance, and Treaty armies under the new Emperor Theo--plan to march to Eramu. A third of the mages are still loyal to the Academy, including Alex's contracted mage: they ask that their contracts with the lords they are serving to be voided, while the remaining mages destroy their wands in a gesture of secession from the Academy, as well as to avoid being tracked and eavesdropped upon by them...
